Hey folks. So it has been unofficially, officially announced. I am working on a new ongoing series from IMAGE Comics called "The Last of the Greats."

It is written by Joshua Hale Fialkov (Echoes, Superman/Batman, Tumor, I Vampire, etc...) Inked by Matthew Wait (Shinku) and colored by the amazing Mirka Andolfo. The first issue, which is 32 pages mind you, will release in early October.

CBR has a nice little write up and interview with my co-hort Mr. Fialkov. Take a gander. And don't forget to ask you local shops to order this when it hits Previews in August.

So first the news. You may not have heard, but I am working on a new proposal with Josh Fialkov, the writer of Tumor, Echoes, Marvel Girl one-shot, etc... I am also working with inker Matthew Waite and colorist Benny Fuentes.

We have our fingers crossed for a certain publisher, and should know soon. Great things are in the works, and you folks are going to love this book.

So until I can post art from that book, here are a couple commissions to keep you guys held over.

Most recently I finished my latest stint with Zenescope Entertainment finishing up Sinbad 14. Though I can't show you any of those pages,Since the book is not yet released and has been put on hold for a short time, here are some new sample pages that I have worked up from a Marvel test script.

OK, So here is an update.

I will be signing at the Zenescope booth 2335 (across fro the DC both)Saturday from 3-4.

The rest of the time, I will be at Artist Alley table C15 with good buddy Michael Champion. I will be at the table for most of the weekend, though I will have to get up and take care of a few things here and there. So if you swing by and im not there, check back, for I will return soon.

Sinbad #11, Corrective Measures & a new drawring.

Hey folks,

just wanted to drop by, and give some news. Currently in the new Previews are two titles that I am attached to. Both Titles are slated for July 2010.

One is the very first book that I ever worked on by Arcana Comics titles "Corrective Measures Vol 2". I Completed this book in August of 2008. Needless to say my art now has made great strides. But it is something that i poured hours of sweat into, and it was a great learning experience.

The second is Sinbad #11 from Zenescope Comics, written by Dan Wickline. I am currently drawing it now, and it is gonna be a fun read with plenty of pretty pictures.

So go to your local shop and have them order a couple of each title :)

Now on to the new piece. This is a Shazam piece that popped into my head about 2a.m. 2 weeks ago. I sat down and started drawing it. Today I finally had a chance to take a break and complete it. Done with 2h pencil then inked with Copic Multi-Liners and Copic markers. Hope you guys like.

Anthology pages

Here are the two pages i just finished for an anthology over at the Bendis Board. The printed book should be out in June I believe. Gonna be a fun mix of writing and artistic styles.

This was a fun little experiment. I decided to ink these over extremely loose blue line pencils. Usually I layout the pages in blue line, then lite pencil the details, and finally do final dark detailed pencils. It was a new adventure, which was pretty stressful. But I am pretty happy with the outcome.

In other news, check out the Grimm Fairy Tales Vol. 7 Trade in stores this Wednesday. You will see a short by yours truly in the back.

So ladies and gents. I have just now completed issu#43 of "Grimm Fairy Tales" for Zenescope Entertainment. What a crazy month it has been. You see not only do i draw comics, but i work a full time day job, Dj two to three times a week, and I am also a father. But I did it. 24 pages in 4 weeks. See it can be done.

I have a couple more projects lined up that i will give details to at another time.

The issue should be out in December. I have already seen some of the colored pages, and it should go to print this week. So stay tuned for an official release date.

Well that's enough for now. Time for some uch needed sleep.

Two more weeks until deadline. That's right, in two weeks, my issue of Grimm Fairy Tales will be finished and off to print. I can say anything about it, or post any artwork yet, but, I will be the pencil artist for Grimm Fairy Tales #43. So make sure you look for it in December and grab an issue. It is a really fun story, and I have had a blast doing it.

Dallas Comic Con and New Pages

Well folks, this weekend is Dallas Comic Con. As so we are clear, that's Saturday and Sunday August 15 & 16, 2009. The Con will be held at the Richardson Civic Center. Admission is $10 and parking is free. I will have prints at my table, and will be doing sketches and commissions all weekend. I also hope to have a few copies of the book 3 Girls by Dan Wickline, which i did the cover for. (if i have them, they are $5 a piece.)

There will also be plenty of other great talent. Many big names in the industry, plus several amazing local artists. I hope you guys can make it out. If you do swing through, drop by and say hey. I would love to meet you.

Dallas Comic Con is three weeks away. I will have a table there this year. And the exciting part is that it will be my own table. This will be the first show that I haven't had to share a table. Which is great. I can spread out, and not have to worry about intruding on my table mates space.

I plan on doing sketches. I will also have a couple copies of the first volume of "Corrective Measures" (since my volume will hopefully be hitting at the end of the year). And I will have prints for the first time. If you would like a commission, you can go ahead and hit me up.

It's been a minute

So it has been a while since my last post. But here i am with some new stuff. I have been working on some new Character sketches and designs for a new project with my pal Paul Milligan. The story is gonna be full of aliens and action and a hot girl in a Minnie Mouse outfit. So look for some pages and such from that in the future.

Also here is a sketch I did for one of my followers on Twitter. She is a coach for The P90X program.(which is an amazing workout program BTW)

New Project

Well, recently i had to drop a regular project do to a very full schedule that my life is making me keep. So after a few weeks of barely even picking up a pencil, i have landed a new gig. This one is a little more flexible and will allow me to work on my own schedule for now. I still plan on working regularly in the future. but for now this works perfect. The story has been created and will be written by Paul Milligan. He is a great friend and we work together great. So for now i am doing some character stuff as the script is being finished. So check back soon for some more character sketches.

Well boys and girls. man how life turns you around. Recently there have been things in my life that have pushed me to get a second job. Therefore, i will be taking a short break from drawing comics on a regular basis. I sent the email to my writer yesterday removing myself from the newest project i have been working on. I will still be working in the field, just will be on something different and less time consuming. This of course will only last for a season. until i am better on my feet.

I still plan to make blog posts. and will post pages as i can do them. but until i get a steady enough gig that pays enough for that to be my second job, i must do what i have to do.

Cover Complete

So i just received the finished painted cover for the second volume of the Corrective Measures trade. The Pencils are mine, but unfortunately, they didnt give me the name of the artist who painted it.

Originally the cover was to look totally different. The first idea was an outside shot with the two main characters in the foreground, prison guards and the wall of the prison in the background. Then they changed direction. next was this idea. I first sent them a cover with just the figures in the foreground. they then cam back asking me to add all the background stuff(prison, fires, etc..) I really wanted it to be more simple, but when the people publishing your book ask you to do something you do it, or they find someone else who will.

So here ya go. I think it turned out pretty nice. I hope you enjoy, and i will let you know more on the release of the 2nd volume as soon as i know more.

Well kids, it seems that the inker on my new project has bailed. Which really sucks. I guess it could be a good thin, since i had not seen what his inks look like. But, either way, now i have to go find a new inker. The good thing is that i get to pick who we use. So that makes me happy. I have put the word out across a couple boards, and have a couple hopefulls.

But this is what really gets me. If you commit to a project, then you should follow through with it. I mean really. If you don't want to do it then you should turn it down. Don't take something and then back out because you think you got a better project coming. Not to say that this is what he did, but still. Follow through with your commitments people. It will speak wonders for you. especially if you are trying to get in with a big company. they want to see that you are not a flake.

anyway, enough soapboxing. with all that said here is a new piece of art. Penciled and colored by me, and inked by Matthew Warlick.

HEY HEY HEY! Whats up Dee?

today i wanted to show you guys some character sketches for my new books. I have been playing around with my style a bit. I am making some changes here and there. They are subtle, but i think they are needed.

In this business, you want to have your own "voice". And to do that you have to experiment. Tweak the things that need to be tweaked. And try to make yourself stand out.

I heard it best when someone said something kind of like this. "getting your friends and family to support you and buy your comic is one thing, but asking a total stranger to pay $4 for you book is a different story." There has to be something there, and i think style is part of it. It's what draws the reader to you, or pushes them away. Not everyone's style is for everyone. but if you can find the one the meets the taste of the reader you are trying to grab, then you have one part of the battle. (if that makes any sense.) so anywho. i hope you like the sketches.

So here it is. The last bit of work that I have to do for Corrective Measures. This will be the cover for the trade. It has been a long road, and at times it seemed like it would never come to an end, but I did it.

Once this cover is finished, we should be about a month away from total completion. The colorist has one chapter left to color. The letterer is working right behind the colorist. So will will be done soon. then off to the printers. I can't wait.

So I am off and running on my new project, "Pressure". I started doing rough thumbs for the pages. All I can say is that this is going to be one fun book. There is action and humor and all kinds of stuff. The book will be a 6 issue mini, and the first issue should be out in September. The cool thing is, is that "Corrective Measures VOL 2" should be out the same month. 2 books released in the same month? How cool is that?

So the weekend is already over. sitting at a con all weekend really makes the weekend fly by. It was a really good time though. Got to sit with Matt, Evan, Luan, and next to Kristian. The show was a tad slow, but we passed the time by talkin' shop and laughing our butts off. They are all really great guys. And even better for letting me squeeze in at their table since there was a mix up with mine.

These guys make me really jealous. their stuff is all so good. Props to Matt on his new book. and Evans pages are looking amazing. Then Luan did this joker painting yesterday that just made me so mad that i can't paint like that.

Evan let me play with some of his brush pens, which gave me a totally different feel. it aloud me to experiment with some new things. i am going to have to go get me a couple of those.

Also got to do some really fun skethces this weekend. It walways amazes me, the kind of creativity of what people want you to draw. It really can make you stretch your brain.

New Colored Pages

I always love walking into the office and seeing new colored pages in my In-Box. So that means that the book is almost done. Our colorist only has an issue and a half left to color.

New Stuff on the Rise

So boys and girls, I will be starting a new project very soon. It will be a 6 issue series through an indie publisher. Should be exciting and fun. I will post art and give updates as I have them.

Also, this weekend I will have a table at the Sci-fi Expo. It is Saturday and Sunday in Richardson. Come by to say hello. I will be doing sketches and have a couple of other pieces to sell as well. Plus I will have a few copies of the first "Corrective Measures" trade. Pick it up so you are caught up when my volume hits this year.

So a couple of weeks ago, I was asked by an editor at Marvel to do some test pages. I was given a few scripts, and was told to pick a 4-5 pages scene and rock it out. Well that is what i did. I rocked it out to the best of my ability. Unfortunately my ability was not up to "par" at this moment.

At first i was pretty upset. But with the help of some really good friends, who are also in the business, i realized that this is not the end. It is in itself a test. A test to see if i can some back better and stronger.

So off to the drawing board again. I just have to keep getting better. I have made great strides thus far in my work, and i feel i will only get better.

There are times when us artists have this thing, just like writers do, called block. It's when we can't get ideas flowing, things don't look right when we draw them, all in all what you draw is just crap. So with that being said these are just a couple sketches that i did to help me get over the hump. Hopefully things will back to normal soon. I'm sure they will be. So i should have some new stuff for you soon.

Back from Staple!

Well folks, I am back from Austin. The Staple! con went pretty well. I sold a couple pieces, which covered cost of the table. It's not really a sketch con. But next year I will be more prepared. By then i will have at least one book out, so that should help quite a bit.

I would still consider it a success. I got to meet some really cool people, and also some folks that were interested in me possibly doing work for them. I also got to see some people that I don't get to see enough. Hats off to Evan Bryce, Jake Ekiss, Vinh-Luan, Joe Eisma, Paul Milligan, Dave Hopkins, Kristian Donaldson, Nick Derrington, and Paul Benjamin. All of who are great talents.

The live art show after the con was amazing. I always love seeing other people show off the work. Something about seeing a piece of art come from the artist mind to finished work happen right in front of you is really awesome.

Staple! this weekend.

Well it is almost here boys and girls. This Saturday in Austin will be held the Staple! convention. There will be plenty of great talent there. I will be there doing sketches and also selling the first volume of "Corrective Measures" from Arcana Comics, since the second volume with me as the interior artist will be coming out in a few months.

New Stuff on the Horizon.

So there is some new stuff going on for me.

Last week I sent out an email for a few of the contacts i have made over the past year or so. I was letting them know that I just finished my project with Arcana, and that I was looking for a new one. I received a nice response. So hopefully I have some people putting out feelers for me.

I received an e-mail from Sean Jackson over at Arcana asking if I would do the front cover for the Corrective Measures trade. And he also said he would work on getting me another project. So that's pretty cool.

And, I am working on a new book. Well it's a mini-comic. But when it is all said and done, the plan is to pitch it with my friend and writer Paul Milligan. It's a fun story. It's a girl, guns, cars and robots. What more does a book need? Well there is more to it than that, but that is all I am giving you right now. Here is a page from the book. I hope you like.

Finally Finished

Well folks. I am done. I have finally finished the last issue of "Corrective Measures" Volume 2. It is being published by Arcana Comics, and should be on stand third quarter of this year.

I was responsible for the pencils on the last three chapters of the trade. The first chapter was done by Fran Moyano, and the next two by Elias Martin. Inks on my chapters were by Barry Furhman(issue 10) and Jay Moyano (issue 11 and 12.)

I will keep you posted on the progress and the release date of the trade the closer it gets. Until then I am looking for more work.

It's Been a While

So wow it's been a while. I guess several months. So since we last spoke, I have been a busy boy. I am finishing up the last few pages of "Corrective Measures" for Arcana comics. But here is the cool thing, the issues are for the second volume, not the third as originally planned. The second volume of "Corrective Measures" should be out third quarter of this year. I am also working on a small indie project with my good friend Paul Milligan titled "Alex Poe." It's a fun little story full of guns and robots and cars. Good stuff. Well I am gonna get back to drawing. Soon I will be posting images from the books. So check back.

So, I am in the process of setting up my website, but until then I will be posting my stuff here. For those of you who are just coming across this blog and don't already know me, I am a comic book artist just starting out in the industry and trying to make a name for myself. Actually, I am working on my first ever project to be published by Arcana Comics called "Corrective Measures." It is a great story written by Grant Chastain. I am currently working on issues 10 through 14. These should start hitting the shelf sometime in early 2009. I have also just completed my first cover for Penance: Trial of the Century, another Arcana title. This book should hit stores her in the next few months. I will post pencils of some of my favorite pages from these books, as well as some of the inks. I hope you all keep checking back and I hope you like what you see.
